Windows 7 Support - new!

We are currently testing Windows 7 for compatibility with campus applications. At this time, Windows 7 is not fully compatible with our network. As a result, we will continue to deploy Windows XP until we can ensure full compatibility with all applications. We do know GroupWise webaccess and the GroupWise client work for home use. Netstorage using a web-browser works, however, webfolders do not. The UMM Xtranet vpn client works as well. Please contact us if you have any questions.

New GroupWise 8 client coming soon! - new!

Here is a list of what's new in the client.

Laptop Security Checklist

We've put together a document to help our laptop users ensure their laptops are secure. Click here for the document.

Weekend/After hours support

If you have server issues on the weekend or during the evening, please send an e-mail to is@medicine.umaryland.edu Please understand we are not staffed 24x7, however, we will do our best to respond. During normal business hours, please use Helpstar for the fastest response time.

PDA Policy Change

As of 3/1/09, Blackberry is our new standard for syncing Groupwise with PDA/Smartphones. Other devices can be synced with Groupwise using a third-party vendor for $200/yr. Read this link for more information

GroupWise Passwords

You must now use your novell password to access groupwise remotely. Your novell password is the same password you use to login to any Department of Medicine computer at work.

Position on Windows Vista

As many of you probably already know, Microsoft's Windows Vista is the newest Windows PC Operating System. We currently support Windows 2000 and Windows Xp for our systems. There are two main reasons we are not supporting Vista at this time:

- Hardware requirements have increased considerably with Vista .
- The new Operating System hasn't been tested for compliance with any campus systems.

Therefore, we will not support Vista and currently have no plans for supporting the new operating system ( we will be evaluating the new OS in the coming year). We ask that you select Windows Xp Professional as the operating system on all Medicine \ EPI supported Laptops you purchase.
