1. I'm having a PC problem, what should I do first ?

The first thing you need to do is reboot your PC ( Choose Restart, not Logoff User ).  If that doesn't fix your problem, please see a Helpstar representative so they can place a Helpstar for you.  If you're not sure who is a Helpstar rep, ask your Division Administrator.

  

2. I can't save to the server, it says I'm out of space ? 

We cap space on the server at 500MB per user.  If you need more space, please ask your Division Administrator/supervisor to place a Helpstar and we'll evaluate your request for additional server space.

 

3.   I keep getting a Macro warning when I start Word or Excel ?

In MS Office 2003, Macro security is automatically set to High.  You can prevent these messages, by opening Word and Excel and going to Tools-Macro-Security and changing the setting to Low.

 

4.  Which Helpdesk should I call ?

If in doubt, place a Helpstar ( see FAQ #1 ) with us and we'll triage the call.  We'll get back to you quickly and let you know if we can help, or if you need to call another campus entity for assistance.

  

5.  MY PC is frozen, it won't even turn off ?

You can press and hold the power button for 10 seconds or more to force reboot the PC.

6.  I'd like to move my PC, what do I need to do ?

Feel free to move the PC yourself, with the permission of your Division Administrator/supervisor,( the cables should be obvious where they get plugged back in ) if you feel comfortable doing so.  We need to know the new room location so that we can update our inventory list.

7.  My computer is running slow, what can I do to fix this ?

Make sure you restart you computer by choosing "Restart".  Also try cleaning up files on your computers desktop by moving them to either the network or the My Documents folder.   You may also try running the "Remove Spyware" application ( in the App Launcher ) to cleanup the system.  Lastly, running a defrag on the system by running Disk Defragmenter from the Start--Program Files-Accessories--System Tools menu.  If the system is still slow, please have a Helpstar entered by your Administrator and we'll take a look.

8.  I have a "scan" running for several hours, what is it ?

We run an automatic virus scan every night on your PC.  If it is still running when you get in, you can restart your PC to get rid of the scan message.  If this happens frequently, please place a Helpstar.

9.  I can't login, what should I do ?

First, restart your PC.  If you still can't login, ask your Division Admin to change your password using iManager ( details on the Administrator's FAQ page ).  If that still doesn't work, ask them to place a Helpstar.

10.  I get alot of POP-UPs, how can I prevent this ?

You should double-click  Remove Spyware  from your Application Launcher.  If the problem continues, ask your Administrator to place a Helpstar.
